January Monthly Discussion:

ABCs and 123s for Managing Defiant and Disruptive Behaviours

The presentation will discuss various parenting styles and effective strategies for managing challenging behaviour in children. The session will focus on common behavioural challenges, preventative strategies, and examining how parenting choices impact the child behaviour. Special consideration will also be given to the needs of adopted and foster children and those with early childhood trauma or neglect, including sensitivity to how this may impact child behaviour and subsequent parenting.

Dr. Melissa Ortega is a clinical child psychologist from the United States. She joined the Southside Family Health Child Development Team shortly after moving to Hong Kong two years ago. Dr. Ortega specialises in the treatment of ADHD and Disruptive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, and Selective Mutism. She is a certified therapist in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an empirically supported behavioural therapy for children with behavioural difficulties.

This event is open for all parents and caregivers, waiting and prospective parents, adult adoptees, professionals and students.
