The Waiting and Newly Adoptive Families (WNAF) Group is a warm, informal gathering for people at every stage of the adoption journey. Whether you’re actively in the process, still exploring whether adoption might be right for you, or you’ve welcomed a child through adoption within the last nine months—you’re welcome here.
We’ll share ideas and practical tips on what you can do to prepare while you’re applying, during the waiting period, and in the time before adoption is finalized. It’s also a wonderful chance to ask questions in a supportive, safe environment—especially to our host team, who have been through the process themselves, and to others who are navigating similar concerns.
This group is very interactive, with plenty of time for conversation, questions, and answers.

Catherine and her husband have adopted two sons through the HK adoption system. She began her involvement with AFHK through its information and support for “waiting parents” and then she supported AFHK as its Administrative Assistant before joining the Steering Committee. She has long had a personal interest in foster care and adoption and has learned much over the years through relationships with adoptees, children in foster care and other adoptive parents.

Participants may opt to receive a Certificate of Attendance which will note your participation and the topic of this meeting. We hope this may support an adoption or foster application by demonstrating an ongoing commitment to learning about the needs of parenting a child through adoption or fostering. The certificate will cost HKD45 and be emailed directly to you after you attend the meeting.

• HKD150 for non-members or lapsed members (or pay for membership on registration and attend this event for FREE). Payment is required in advance.
The WNAF team welcomes those registering to send any questions about adoption in advance. This will help the team plan for this and future events and for creating and sharing resources and information that will better inform and prepare you.
