THIS MONTH'S TOPIC: TALKING ABOUT THE TOUGH STUFF, with Gretchen Ryan

How do we tell our children the difficult aspects of their history? How do we handle questions from our children or their siblings related to painful aspects of the child's background? Our Parent Support Meeting co-leader, Gretchen Ryan, will be sharing her insights on how to talk about the difficult facts about the birth story in positive, age-appropriate ways and how to keep the conversation going through adolescence and beyond.

Gretchen is an experienced social worker and mother of five children by adoption and fostering. She has worked in a variety of care settings using her skills and passion to advocate for children and adoptive families, including Mother's Choice and now Home of Loving Faithfulness. She has a wealth of personal and professional experience to share on this topic!

Our Parent Support Meeting is a time for both AFHK members and non-members to learn, connect with other adoptive parents, and share our experiences. Waiting parents, those considering adoption, and adult adoptees are also welcome. If you have not yet joined us for a meeting, we welcome
