Adoptive Families of Hong Kong Present:

When Adoption Meets the Classroom

DATE:           Tuesday, February 9, 2010

TIME:            7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

PLACE:          Chinese International School

                     Drama Studio

1 Hau Yuen Path, Braemar Hill

You are invited to come and join parents, teachers and professionals for a stimulating discussion about adoption, adopted students and families in the context of schools and education in Hong Kong.

When adopted children, whether age 6 or 16, leave the supportive family environment to go off to school each day, they often meet challenges that they shoulder alone. We will talk about the often surprising ways in which adoption issues can arise in the classroom, how they impact adopted children as well as their non-adopted peers, and what teachers, counsellors and parents can do to best support them and educate all of our children at school about adoption (what it means and does not mean) and about family diversity.

*PSYCHOLOGIST, Dr. Erica Liu Wollin, Clinical Supervisor at Alliant International University, Hong Kong, will introduce the psychological dimensions of adoption across the range of school ages.

*A PANEL, including an adopted high school student, adoptive parents, and educators will share experiences and advice, followed by an audience Q & A session.
