'Executive Function' is a complicated concept that refers to a collection of inter-related processes which are responsible for future oriented behavior. This system of skills includes the ability to: hold information in mind and use it; pause and think before acting; filter out distractions; shift attention; and develop and use strategies to achieve short, mid and long-term goals. It is ultimately about modifying one's own behavior to change future outcomes.

These skills begins to develop at around 6 months of age and continue to develop into the late 20s. They are crucial for success in school, university, and the workplace; friendships, familial and marital relationships; risk assessment and making healthy life decisions.

Join us on September 29th at 7 pm for this practical talk which aims to provide easy to digest background theory on the development of these skills, a discussion on the implications of difficulties with executive function and take-home ideas and strategies for supporting children from the early years through adolescence and young adulthood. This talk will be beneficial for all parents, as well as professionals who work with children.
